Dog Snow Boots & Coats

Posted by Bold Apps on

Winter is here, and we are already thinking about our thick coats and boots, but what about our furry friends?  We have the common misconception that dogs are equipped by nature with fur coats and that they will do fine without coats or boots. That could be true if you have a dog with thick furs like a Siberian Husky, Samoyed, and other heavy fur dogs, but what about small and medium dogs like the Chihuahuas, Yorkies, and pinscher breeds who have thin fur? While body temperature is the same no matter what breed, it is important to consider the amount of fur when preparing your dog for the outdoors.

Older dogs with weaker immune systems and dogs with diseases that impair hair growth typically need a sweater or coat to stay warm. If you are deciding to get a coat or sweater for your pooch, you will need to consider the material. A good blend of washable wool and cotton or acrylic may the best.

What about protecting paws?

Snow Boots

We think that dogs have thick paws, so they can handle all type of weather and terrain however even paws need extra protection. Winter can wreak havoc on your dog’s feet. The cold and sharp ice can cut through the pads of their feet and salt used to melt ice and snow is toxic. That is why using dog boots creates protection from chemicals and the other elements. Dog boots offer comfort as well as protection, so getting the right fit is important so that they don’t rub against paws or fall off while your dog is walking.

Your dog may need some time to get used to wearing a coat or boots. With the boots, they step high and dance around which is quite funny to see them, but with regular use, your dog will soon learn to associate wearing the boots with going outside to have fun.

Your dog will love the attention you show him while putting the clothes on, so just have fun while you and your furry friend stay warm!!.
